02/03/09 2:00 PM Pacific Time - All but two boats looked to have finished the first leg; G-Rated & Rhiannon are 10-15NM out. All of the navigators were looking for wind but did not find much at the finish of this the longest leg of this race series; 376NM. The crews will enjoy some time in Turtle Bay on Cedros Island before they head out for leg two, a 220NM jaunt to Magdalena Bay. Stay tuned for more news as it comes in...

02/04/09 4:00 PM Pacific Time - Congratulations to David Kory and his crew of the 36-foot Barking Spider for claiming top honors for Race #1 - a 376NM jaunt from Marina del Rey to Cedros Island. Byron Chamberlain's Rose of Sharon was second. The parties must have been fun!

02/05/09 6:00 AM Pacific Time - After a short layover and a Tuesday in Turtle Bay, the wind has picked up to about 10 or 12 knots from the south - a good start for Race #2 a 220NM run to Magdalena Bay. Also note restart dates have been set for Saturday to leave Magdalena Bay and Tuesday to Cabo Falso for the last leg.

02/06/09 7:00 AM Pacific Time - The winds were inconsistent and unusually light as the 14 boat fleet 'raced' down the Baja peninsula. There was some wind at the start, but it faded fast. All the boats should finish this morning then party and prep for the final two legs of the race series, the next a 152NM run to Puerto Los Cabos. We will provide more details as they come in…

02/07/09 6:00 AM Pacific Time - While anchored in Santa Maria Bay Friday, the fleet watched whales migrating into nearby Magdalena Bay and the wind actually increased to as much as 15 knots from northwest - hopefully this will bode well for Race #3 to Puerto Los Cabos starting, today, Saturday at 1 p.m. PST. This is a 152NM run to Puerto Los Cabos at the tip of the Baja peninsula. Stay tuned….

02/08/09 6:00 AM Pacific Time - Race 3 began yesterday with Barking Spider building visions of a sweeping the series! Wind for the next few days is forecasted to be much improved so that may allow some of the larger boats to make up time. Predicted winds of 20 or 30 knots and big seas by Sunday, caused the race committee to move Saturday's start in the 152NM race up from 1PM. PST to 10AM PST Race 3 is only for spinnaker classes A and B. Non-spinnaker A and B will be trolling to Puerto Los Cabos in a fishing tournament that may be no less intense than racing. There was a protest filed - Joel Young's Transformer protested a Non-Spinnaker B class rival, Peter Noonan's Defiance, for employing a headsail as a spinnaker. There will be a hearing at completion of all the races.

02/09/09 5:00 AM Pacific Time - Spinnakers are flying on the best winds of the race series so far and resulted in no engine logged The fastest of the fleet was, Bob Kettenhofen's slick Beck 60, Dare but Jim Puckett's Farr 55, Amazing Grace, was 13 miles behind Dare at morning roll call and may correct over.

02/09/09 5:00 PM Pacific Time - It was 3'22" that David Kory's Barking Spider corrected over Byron Chamberlain's Rose of Sharon, a 50-foot, 79-year-old wooden schooner, to win Race 3 of Del Rey Yacht Club's PV09 International Race Series to Puerto Vallarta. The Non-Spinnaker A and B boats did not race this leg, instead devoting their efforts to a fishing tournament en route. The last Start is tomorrow a 286NM run across the Gulf to Puerta Vallarta.
